DAVID SOUTHWOOD

This site is for my architectural photography.

My practice has sparked talking invitations and commissions from, amongst others, the African Centre for CitiesICP, Yale (anthropology and architecture departments), Ohio State University, and NDSU, enabling the curation of exhibitions on urban themes and various publications

Meaningful representations of architecture are driven by detailed conversations with clients about the philosophy, aesthetics, and humanity embedded in their practice. This approach has led to work that clearly compresses the ideas behind the projects and the built projects themselves.

Collaborative projects with architects and planners have been exhibited internationally in museums and on biennales. My most recent publication is Hustles, published in late 2018 with Local Studio of Johannesburg. I oversaw production and directed the design.

In addition to actual photography, I offer post-production, video(HD, 360, drone), sound advice, and field recordings. I work with dedicated shift lenses and potent cameras.

I am fortunate to work with some of the world’s finest urban designers and architects and have had work published on most international architecture/design platforms.

Light interests me more than Photoshop and ‘architecture photography’ can become an invaluable research tool and social document when the briefs are ambitious and considered.
